If you are looking to get your child an instrument the ukulele is your best bet for several reasons. First, it is small and lightweight, making it ideal for children as young as three years old. Second, since the instrument is for a child it is a good idea to find something inexpensive in case it gets damaged and ukes start as low as $35 for something of decent quality. Third, since there is a whole family of stringed instruments it is a great gateway to others like the guitar or violin.
